Endometriosis is a painful condition wherein women suffer with heavy or painful periods and pain in the pelvis, painful intercourse, pain while passing urine or bowel movement during periods and rarely bleeding in the urine or stool. This happens because just as patient has periods outside the body, there is also bleeding inside the tummy. This blood collects and forms “Chocolate cysts” (ovarian cysts filled with old blood). It can cause problems with fertility as it affects the egg quality and can cause blocked tubes

Diagnosis is by history, gynaecological check-up, sonography, MRI or laparoscopy (camera test of the tummy)
