You will be fasting for at least 6 hours prior. This does not affect the baby. You will be given a hospital gown to change into, and you will have the hair on the lower abdomen and bikini line clipped. They will explain you the procedure and you can develop a rapport. They will put a intravenous line on your non dominant wrist to give fluids and attach an ECG machine and BP machine on your chest and other arm respectively. The anaesthetist make you sit up on the operation table and clean your back. Your back is uncovered for this, as you receive the anaesthetic drug by a needle in the spine muscles. It is given after local anaesthesia so you only feel one sharp needle first which is the numbing medicine.
